Every September, Nikiti honors its patron saint, Saint Nikitas, with a vibrant religious and cultural festival. This year’s celebration will be especially meaningful, as the holy relics of Saint Nikitas, preserved at the Dochiariou Monastery of Mount Athos, will be welcomed to Nikiti for the first time in many years.

From Friday, September 12th to Monday, September 15th, 2025, both locals and visitors will gather in Nikiti to celebrate with liturgies, processions, music, and traditional food. The event combines spiritual devotion with the warm, festive atmosphere that characterizes Greek village celebrations.


Program of Events

 

Friday, September 12th

  • 17:00 – Official reception of the holy relics of Saint Nikitas at the old village bus stop in Nikiti.
  • The relics will then be transferred to the Church of Saint Nikitas, where they will remain until September 15th.

Saturday, September 13th

  • 07:30 – Morning Orthros and Divine Liturgy
  • 12:00 – Holy Supplication (Paraklesis) to Saint Nikitas
  • 18:00 – Evening Vespers and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Sunday, September 14th

  • 07:30 – Orthros, Divine Liturgy & Exaltation of the Holy Cross
  • 19:00 – Evening liturgy followed by a religious procession through Nikiti
  • Later in the evening: celebrations in the village, with local shops offering live music and a lively atmosphere

Monday, September 15th (Feast Day of Saint Nikitas)

  • 07:00 – Orthros and Archieratical Divine Liturgy
  • 11:00 – Traditional festival (“panigyri”) in the old village square of Nikiti with free local food, wine, and traditional music lasting until midday
  • 17:30 – Holy Supplication to Saint Nikitas and the farewell of the relics
